freeheartscalfNARGA’s goals for the immediate future:

  • Initiate study groups promoting research into area of benefit to the rescue community, the first being microchipping
  • Encourage vets to take part in the National Desexing Network’s (NDN) cheaper desexing campaigns and to initiate their own desexing campaigns
  • Undertake a major campaign of presentations to retirement villages, and other appropriate groups, asking for temporary foster carers
  • Advocate open discussion between rescue groups, large or small, promoting better communication and networking for all animal rescuers
  • Encourage a broader transport network by the networking of animal rescuers
  • Focus on thoroughly educating the younger generations by providing hands on training at schools
  • Educate the public by way of campaigns and offering training sessions to communities
  • Organise bulk microchipping services for communities and rescuers and also provide microchipping resources and education
  • Provide resources to the public and rescuers on animal welfare legislation relative to their state
  • Provide basic adoption training and post adoption resources
  • Construct a nationally recognised and stable temperament testing procedure
  • Develop extensive databases in an effort to develop appropriate networks for all animal rescuers
  • Write submissions, lobbying for change, and work with other groups and rescuers to prepare their own submissions for any relevant animal welfare campaign
  • Introduce a minimum operating standard for animal rescuers and provide them with resources to meet that standard
  • Further the progress of animal rescuers, their volunteers and foster carers by providing relevant information and resources, and to provide a voice by lobbying on their behalf
  • Develop a national disaster response program that has a heavy emphasis on animal welfare
  • Introduce a Cat Snip program for “last litter” desexing of female cats
  • Set up an Emergency Rescue Fund for rescuers to help in emergency situations where the life of an animal is in danger
  • Lobby all three levels of government for a better deal, for recognition, and for better animal welfare education
